Inspection before shipment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pre-shipment inspection or pre-shipment inspection , also pre -shipment inspection or pre-shipment control , is a service used in foreign trade that serves the smooth movement of goods. The inspection before shipment is mainly used in conjunction with a documentary letter of credit

In a pre-shipment inspection, an independent third party examines whether the goods meet the buyer's specifications before the goods are loaded. In any case, the number (completeness) and the appropriate packaging are examined. Further examinations can concern conformity with regulations of the target country (e.g. CE or directive 2006/42 / EG (machinery directive) ), quality, electromagnetic compatibility , pollutants and the like. The pre-shipment inspection ensures that the buyer also receives the goods ordered.

The inspection before shipment is normally agreed between the contracting parties in order to avoid disputes and to achieve a payment of the purchase price upon shipment by means of a documentary letter of credit . The investigation is usually carried out by the carrier . Goods testing companies such as DIN CERTCO, Intertek , Lloyd's Register , TÜV Hessen , TÜV Rheinland, Bureau Veritas or SGS are involved in tests that go beyond a mere completeness and packaging check . After checking the goods and documenting the packaging, the documents are sent to the buyer and the exporter's bank. The inspection certificate (Certificate of Inspection) triggers the payment of the purchase price.
