Stage management system

A stage management system is a system for communication in the theater . The stage manager can make calls from the central stage manager's desk and execute control commands in order to organize the course of a theater performance.

use

This technology is used in theaters or on mobile stages that have been recorded to monitor the scenes and processes on the stage . According to the stage directions, the stage manager signals your activity to various trades. This can e.g. B. be an instruction for the artist to be ready and to enter the stage at the right moment or to send a signal to a technician to move a stage equipment. The recipients of this communication can act without looking directly at the scene area.

In a stage management system, in addition to the light signals, there are also options for direct intercom with the lighting interlocking, the sound recording studio, the foyer or other locations. In modern systems, mobile radios are often addressed from the desk instead of the light signals. There are also controls for calling in , with the help of which announcements can be made throughout the house or only in individual areas. The bell for the audience and the stage curtains are also controlled by a stage management system.

Modern systems contain a screen that can be used to directly follow what is happening on the stage and the conductor. These cameras have to be very sensitive to light in order to be able to observe what is happening on the stage even in low light. A wide variety of image or sound signals can be distributed using a touchscreen control. Recordings can be controlled directly from the stage manager's desk via a built-in CD player.

Construction of the lighting system

In the case of lighting systems, signaling often takes place via two or more states of the light signals.

  • Example:
    • Light signal "off" = no action
    • Light sign "red" = preparation of the artist
    • Light signal "green" = step onto the stage / start performance

Today's stage management systems are available in different versions, there are systems for one-way communication or systems with feedback options. Another difference is the structure of the traffic light systems, there are systems that are star-shaped, others are linear. Below are two variations of a signal system with 8 light signals ( 8 or 16 characters correspond to the "usual" structure of a light circle sign system, but more light signals are technically feasible in larger systems) . In the case of a linear structure, it is necessary that each light signal has an individual address, since these are controlled via a data bus.
