The Institute for Agricultural Law (ILR) is a research institute of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

history

The institute was founded in 1961 on the initiative of lawyer Büttner, who was the legal advisor of the Lower Saxon rural population at the time , and is designed as an institution financed by third parties . The main sponsor is the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank , which established a professorship for agricultural and public law in 2010, to which José Martínez Soria was appointed in 2012. Since it was founded, an advisory board has consisted of representatives from the institute's sponsors, representatives from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Georg-August University, as well as representatives from the German Farmers' Association and the National Association of Agricultural Social Insurance (now SVLFG).

Research and teaching in agricultural law was carried out at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen as early as the 18th century. For example, since 1783 the lectures “Farmer's Law” and “Meyerrecht” and from 1825 to the beginning of the 1970s the lecture “Agricultural Law” were offered at the Faculty of Law. From 1965 to 2003 the research assistant Wolfgang Winkler was responsible for the day-to-day business of the institute.
