The Institute for Bicycle Safety (ifz) is a non-profit, registered association based in Essen . The ifz wants to optimize the road safety of motorcyclists and draw attention to current inconsistencies and, if necessary, offer proposed solutions.
tasks
In addition to the direct exchange with multipliers and motorcyclists, it is above all its own publications with which the ifz reaches its addressees. In addition to scientific publications, the ifz also offers free brochures that educate people on the subject of motorized two-wheelers and show the reader how to behave correctly in traffic.
The ifz is represented in various committees as the mouthpiece of motorcyclists, cooperates with colleges, universities and other institutes and organizes the biennial International Motorcycle Conference, which takes place in Cologne for the tenth time in 2014.
The institute also sees itself as a research facility. Empirical studies and case studies on planned political decisions are carried out on a regular basis.
Library
With over 8000 titles, the ifz has the largest library in Europe that deals exclusively with the topic of motorized two-wheelers.
Current
The ifz's current campaign under the motto “Sharpen your senses!” Addresses all road users and calls for consideration and increased vigilance. In essence, it is about the verified thesis that in the event of a car-motorcycle collision, motorcyclists are often overlooked or misjudged by car drivers and therefore everyone involved is appealed to drive with increased attention.
The ifz recently published educational films with the titles "First Aid - Correct Behavior at the Scene of the Accident" and "Riding a Motorbike - Good and Safe".
