Instituto Geográfico Nacional

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (German " National Geography Institute ") is a facility subordinate to the Argentine Ministry of Defense for the collection and publication of national geographic data as well as for the creation of official maps and other cartographic products. The Institute charges fees for publications by third parties based on this material.

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional represents Argentina in the Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia , in the International Cartographic Association , in the International Geographical Union and in the International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics .

The institute was founded in 1884 and was originally called Instituto Geográfico Militar . On May 14, 2009 it was renamed Instituto Geográfico Nacional.
