International Society of Automation

International Society of Automation ( ISA ) was as I instrument S ociety of A merica on April 28, 1945 in Pittsburgh , founded by Richard Rimbach USA. The ISA has over 28,000 members in 100 countries.

In 1949 ISA defined the first standard , RP 5.1 Instrument Flow Plan Symbols, which has since been followed by many more. ISA organizes numerous conferences and exhibitions, publishes books and defines standards.

Since ISA had become strongly internationalized in the meantime and the technical focus continued to go beyond instrumentation, ISA was renamed ISA - The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society in 2000 . In 2008 the ISA renamed itself the International Society of Automation .
