Elizabeth Armstrong Reed

Elizabeth Armstrong Reed (born May 16, 1842 in Winthrop , Maine , † 1915 ) was an American orientalist .

In 1860 she married Hiram V. Reed and became the mother of Myrtle Reed . In 1893 she was chairman of the Woman's Congress of Philology in Chicago and in 1896 she wrote for the Course of Universal Literature . She served as chair of the Illinois Woman's Press Association for four terms. She has received honorary degrees from Northwestern and Illinois Wesleyan Universities and Bethany College .
