Intelligent ammunition system

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Future Combat Systems Intelligent Munitions System (IMS) is an under development system of unmanned, remote-controlled lethal and non-lethal sensors with an integrated reconnaissance component. It is a type of remote controlled mine .

System description

The ammunition is developed for the following types of use:

  • Isolate opposing forces
  • Combating worthwhile goals
  • Closing gaps in the battlefield
  • Keep non-combatants under control with non-lethal ammunition

The ammunition is not intended to pose a permanent risk as it is intended to self-destruct after some time or on command. In addition, each mine is controlled and triggered by a rear operator.

At the beginning of 2007, the development of the FCS was stopped. However, the private sector continues to pursue them.
