Inter-District Championship (Fiji)
The Inter-District Championship (IDC) is the premier competition for football clubs from Fiji under the supervision of the Fiji Football Association . Teams from different Fijian provinces take part in the IDC every year. 1987 was the only year in which the competition was not held due to a military coup.
The Lloyd Farebrother Cup , which will be presented to the IDC winner, was named after the first President of the Fijian Football Association, AS Farebrother and Lloyd and Company .
Only five teams took part in the first edition of the IDC in Suva in 1938 (teams from Suva, Rewa, Ba , Levuka and Lautoka ). From 1938 to 1975 the competition was played in knockout mode, and in 1976 group matches were played. Since 1985 the IDC has been held in two divisions, and in 1999 there was also a third division.
mode
The Inter-District Championship is held in two divisions. Fiji's top ten provinces play in the first division. Currently these are Ba, Labasa, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga, Nasinu, Navua, Rewa, Suva and Tavua. The teams are divided into two groups of five clubs each. Each team plays against each other team once. A win brings three points, a draw two and a defeat zero points. The best two teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals. The group winners play against the runners-up in the other group. The semi-finals and the final will be played on the same day.
The second division consists of 12 teams from the provinces of Bua, Dreketi, Lami, Nadogo, Nalawa, Rakiraki, Savusavu, Seaqaqa, Tailevu / Naitasiri, Tailevu North, Taveuni and Vatukoula. The division is divided into three groups of four teams each, each team playing once against each other team in the group. In contrast to the first division, a tie is worth one point. The best two teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals. The group winners play against the runners-up in the other group. The semi-finals and the final will be played on the same day.
