Interexpress

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interexpress , IEx for short , is a former international type of train. The trains ran from 1986 to 1991 as international express trains between the GDR , Poland , Czechoslovakia and Hungary .

history

Interexpress is the short form of International Express or equivalent expressions in other languages. In the mid-1980s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the railways of Poland ( PKP ), Czechoslovakia ( ČSD ) and Hungary ( MÁV ) decided to introduce this type of train for high-quality passenger traffic between these countries. In 1986 some express trains were converted into IEx trains. This got ahead of the western railway administrations, where the Eurocity system was only introduced in 1987 .

After the political change in 1989/1990 there was no longer any need for an isolated offer. The trains were partly abolished in 1991, partly converted into Eurocity or normal express trains.

Trains

The following trains operated as Interexpress:

IEx designation Train run
IEx 1/2 Silesia Praha hl.n. - Warszawa Wschodnia
IEx 36/37 Báthory Budapest - Warszawa
IEx 72/73 Metropolitan Berlin-Lichtenberg - Praha-Holešovice - Budapest
IEx 74/75 Hungaria Berlin-Lichtenberg - Praha-Holešovice - Budapest
IEx 76/77 Primator Berlin – Lichtenberg - Praha
IEx 78/79 progress Berlin – Lichtenberg - Praha
IEx 242/243 Berolina Berlin Central Station - Warszawa Wschodnia

Báthory and Metropol were night trains that also carried sleeping and couchette cars. Some of the trains carried through cars at least for a time , such as the Metropol to Vienna or the Berolina to Paris. The Hungaria operated in 1986/87 and 1987/88 combined with the D374 / 375 Vindobona to Vienna and ran through coaches from Malmö in the summer.

The Progress only operated in 1986/87 and 1987/88. Special comfort cars with air conditioning and red and white paintwork were used in it.

In terms of tariffs, the IEx trains could be used at the normal express train tariff. Reservations were required for international traffic.
