Intercantonal Reinsurance Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Intercantonal Reinsurance Association (IRV) was founded in 1910. It offers reinsurance services in the areas of fire and natural hazards . As an inter-cantonal, public corporation, the IRV is not profit-oriented and operates exclusively for the cantonal building insurance (KGV) in Switzerland.

activity

In the area of catastrophe damage as a result of natural forces, risk sharing is based on solidarity among all cantonal building insurances and the IRV. At the center of this solidarity-based risk sharing is the Intercantonal Risk Community Elementar (IRG). This is a loss pool in which 18 KGV and the IRV participate. Without the IRG, building insurance would be on its own in the event of major damage caused by natural forces that exceed conventional reinsurance coverage. The coverage of the IRV includes the risk potential of the building insurance. The IRV is thus part of a comprehensive security system for the benefit of the Swiss population.

Other activities include advising KGV on risk issues, long-term statistical analyzes, evaluations of relevant loss events, but also the management of capital investments as well as residential and commercial space.
