International Association of Insurance Supervisors

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors ( IAIS ; German International Association of Insurance Supervisors ) was founded in 1994 under Swiss law. It is based in Centralbahnplatz 2. Basel .

Members of the association are around 200 supervisory authorities from over 140 countries, including the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) from Germany .

The association also has 120 organizations that are not active members, but merely have observer status as insurance companies, brokers or auditors. The highest authority of the IAIS is the Executive Committee. This is responsible for the direction and management of the IAIS. The Budget Committee and the Audit and Risk Committee are affiliated as staff functions.

Below the Executive Committee, three committees deal with the content-related work of the IAIS: the Policy Development Committee, the Macroprudential Committee and the Implementation and Assessment Committee.
