International Featured Standards (IFS) refers to a series of "food, product and service standards " which are intended to guarantee that "a product that conforms to the specifications agreed with the customer" is produced "or a service "is provided.
The International Featured Standards include: IFS Broker, IFS Cash & Carry / Wholesale, IFS Food (formerly International Food Standard), IFS Food Store, IFS HPC, IFS Logistics and IFS PACsecure.

Emergence

Originally developed as the International Food Standard , the subject area was expanded and the name changed to International Featured Standards .

The aim is to reduce the effort through the large number of audits in the area of quality assurance for both suppliers and trading companies .

In 2003, member companies of the HDE - Main Association of German Retailers and the FCD - Fédération des Entreprises du Commerce et de la Distribution developed a quality and food safety standard for private label retailers, the International Food Standard. It served the uniform review of food safety and the quality level of the producers. Several updates and collaboration with Italian trade associations followed. As additional standards for the supply chain were developed, the International Food Standard brand was renamed International Featured Standards. Certification is carried out by independent, accredited certification bodies.

Goals and areas of application

IFS standards are intended to ensure that certified companies produce a compliant product or service in accordance with the specifications agreed with the customer and that they are constantly working on improvements through a continuous improvement process. The standards and their requirements (checklists) are aimed at various participants in the supply chain:

IFS broker

  • is intended to be used for companies that mainly carry out "trading activities". Brokers choose their suppliers themselves and buy the goods themselves or on behalf of them for the purpose of further trading and do not necessarily come into contact with the product.

IFS Cash & Carry / Wholesale

  • is intended to cover handling activities of loose and packaged products in cash & carry markets or wholesale companies. The requirements in IFS Cash & Carry / Wholesale are the same as in IFS Food, but contain additional specifications on how to deal with special requirements in Cash & Carry markets or wholesalers.

IFS Food

  • is intended for auditing companies that process food or companies that pack loose food products. IFS Food can be used when products are being processed or treated or when there is a risk of product contamination during the initial packaging.

IFS HPC

  • is a standard for ensuring the safety and quality of household and personal care products.

IFS Logistics

  • can be used for both food and non-food products and covers all logistical activities such as loading, unloading and transport. The standard can be used for different types of transport, e.g. B. Trucks, trains, ships and planes.

IFS PACsecure

  • is a safety and quality standard that should be applicable to all manufacturers of primary and secondary packaging.
