International Osteoporosis Foundation

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) is a non-governmental organization that researches and educates about the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis .

The IOF was founded in Bern in 1987 as a European organization and was named after the merger with the International Federation of Societies on Skeletal Diseases (IFSSD) . 191 national societies from 91 countries, 90 scientists and 34 companies are represented in it.

The association works with an annual budget of around CHF 5 million , which is mainly spent on public relations, research and political lobbying .

IOF runs World Osteoporosis Day , which takes place on October 20th every year.
