International Relations and Security Network

The International Relations and Security Network (ISN) was a freely accessible online information service for international relations and security policy. It was operated as a sub-project of the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich . The ISN has been fully integrated into the Center for Security Studies since 2016 .

The network, founded in 1994, distributed, administered and produced internet-based content with a focus on international relations and security policy and promoted cooperation between institutions that research and work in these areas. The ISN was financed by the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) and the ETH Zurich.

activities

  • Digital library : A core service of the ISN was the digital library, which contained over 69,000 publications and other multimedia resources in the field of international relations, security and defense policy, development policy and international political economy . The library contained full-text books, working papers, government reports, journal articles, brief political analyzes, blog entries, presentations and audio and video resources from 249 partner institutions. The library also contained a directory of over 3,000 think tanks , university and research institutes, non-governmental organizations and other institutions active in the field of international relations and security policy.
  • ISN Features: Together with partner institutions and international experts, the ISN published new analyzes and blog articles as well as regular audio and video features on the homepage on a daily basis. In addition, multimedia dossiers on topics relevant to security policy were published at irregular intervals.
  • Partner organizations and communities: The ISN maintained an international network of 249 partner institutions in around 50 countries. The network consisted of university and research institutes, think tanks , international (non) governmental organizations and state institutions.
