International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) (de: Internationale Gesellschaft für Photogrammetrie und Fernerkundung ) is a non-governmental organization for the development of international cooperation, the promotion of knowledge, research, development, education and training in photogrammetry , remote sensing and the spatial information sciences , their integration and applications as a contribution to the welfare of mankind and the preservation of the environment.

History of the German section

The German branch of the ISPRS developed from the "German Society for Photogrammetry" which was initially founded in 1909. From 1976 it operated as the "German Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing e. V. (DGPF) ". In 1980, at the 14th International Congress for Photogrammetry in Hamburg, the international society also adopted the addition of "remote sensing". In 2002 the name of the German society was expanded to " German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF)".
