The International Steel Group (ISG) was a large US steel manufacturer that existed between 2002 and 2005. The headquarters of the group was in Cleveland , Ohio . In 2004 ISG produced around 17.8 million tons of crude steel.

The company was founded in April 2002 by the investment company WL Ross & Company of the later US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross . At the beginning, the main component of ISG was the steel division of the insolvent LTV Corporation . This was taken over by WL Ross & Company and supplemented by Acme Steel, which was also taken over. In 2003, several steel works of the traditional Bethlehem Steel group, which filed for bankruptcy in 2001, were incorporated into the International Steel Group. In the period that followed, other insolvent steel producers were bought up and incorporated into the group. By merging the steel groups Ispat International , LNM Holdings and ISG, the first two owned by the Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal , the world's largest steel manufacturer Mittal Steel Company was created in 2005 . Mittal, in turn, took over the Luxembourg competitor Arcelor in 2006 and merged into ArcelorMittal in 2007 .
