The International Children's and Young People's Book Exhibition ( IKiBu ) has been organized regularly by the Duisburg City Library since 1971 .

The exhibition is carried out regularly. Initially annually, later every two years and since 1992 every year, it provides an insight into the diversity and special features of children's and youth literature . The centerpiece is the exhibition of books for children and young people, which shows the new publications, the current German Young People's Literature Prize and a thematic or international focus. Readings by authors are another focus .

The International Children's and Youth Book Exhibition addresses not only literary but also other areas of experience for children. In the supporting program, which like the book exhibition has not taken place in the Mercator Hall since 1983 , but in the central library and in the district and district libraries, children have the opportunity to participate in games, painting and handicraft activities, children's and puppet theater, film and music events. Since 1996, the Children's Book Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has been awarded every two years during the international children's and youth book exhibition .
