International Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations

The International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches (IFFEC) is a worldwide association of free evangelical churches and was founded in Bern in 1948. 33 national organizations of Free Evangelical Churches belong to it. The member unions come mainly from Europe and North and South America.

Overall, the national associations represented in IFFEC have around 700,000 members worldwide. The two largest member associations are the Evangelical Covenant Church and the Evangelical Free Church of America in the USA. The two largest European federations can be found in Sweden ( Equmeniakyrkan ) and Germany ( Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations in Germany ).

The International Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations is headed by a President (since October 10, 2014 Ansgar Hörsting , President of the Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations in Germany) and a General Secretary (currently the Spaniard Francisco Ortegas Portillo ).

The following theological views are usually shared by Free Evangelical Congregations:

  • Jesus Christ is God's Son and the Savior sent by him.
  • One becomes a Christian through the personal decision to entrust the rulership of one's life to Jesus.
  • The Bible is the binding standard for faith and life.
  • Belief in God in Jesus Christ is the only way to find salvation.
