International Chess Day

The International Chess Day (also International Chess Day ) is an international day of action that is celebrated annually on July 20th. It is also the day FIDE , the international chess federation, was founded (July 20, 1924).

The idea of celebrating this day was proposed by UNESCO and has been a reality since 1966 after the day was established by FIDE. On this day, FIDE organizes numerous events and competitions worldwide. According to FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumschinov , the day in 2013 was celebrated in 178 countries.
