International social service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Social Service ( ISD ) is the German branch of an international non-governmental organization called International Social Service . The ISD supports people with problems that have a foreign connection, for example international family conflicts, child and youth welfare with a foreign connection, migration i. e. S. and adoption .

history

The International Social Service was founded after the end of the First World War. In the course of the global migration movement, people - and especially women - needed help with immigration and emigration. The ITS helped to get papers and provided information about the necessary modalities.

working area

Today the International Social Service is divided into four areas:

1. International family conflicts

The increasing migration at home and abroad means that more and more marriages are concluded in which one or both partners have a migration background . Not only Germans marry partners from abroad, people of foreign nationality living here also marry people from other countries or start a family together. If these relationships diverge, these partnerships can lead to violent disputes over custody and access rights . If a partner leaves Germany, for example to return to their home country, this makes it more difficult to organize the contact between children and the parent with whom they do not live; the distance and cultural differences can also exacerbate a family conflict. Youth welfare offices and courts, as well as other parties involved in the proceedings, face particular difficulties in these cases.

2. Cross - border child and youth welfare

Neither disputes over custody and access rights nor endangerment of the child's welfare are limited to Germany. The separation of spouses is often accompanied by a spatial separation and one spouse moves abroad. Parents evade youth welfare measures by leaving the respective country. The spatial distance makes it difficult to resolve acute conflicts and dangerous situations. It is therefore often not easy for the employees of the responsible specialist departments to penetrate the network of laws, conventions and cultural characteristics.

3. Migration

Questions of migration and integration are becoming more and more important. For a long time, the ITS has been taking care of a particularly vulnerable group - the group of unaccompanied minor refugees . In addition, the ITS is active in the area of family reunification and return to the home country.

4. International adoption

International adoption has increased dramatically over the past 30 years. The number of adoption applicants currently exceeds the number of adoptable children worldwide. As a result, there is increasing international use of illegal brokering. The focus is often not on the interests of the child, but on the wishes of those willing to adopt. International standards that take into account the needs of the child already exist. The ITS contributed to its decree. But it is essential to ensure that these regulations are observed and to improve them. Not parents are looking for a child, but a child is looking for parents.
