The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava , Czech Republic , is the largest documentary film festival in East Central Europe and has been held annually in autumn since 1997. The six-day festival sees itself as an open forum and is framed by discussions with the audience, workshops, panel discussions and specialist meetings.

history

The festival was founded in 1997 under the name Mezinárodní festival documentárních filmů Jihlava, or MFDF Jihlava for short, by a group of Jihlava high school students under the leadership of Marek Hovorka, who joined together in 2001 to form the Jihlava Association of Amateur Filmmakers (Czech: Jihlavský spolek amatérských filmař). The traditional motto of the documentary film festival is “Think through the film!” (Czech: “Myslet filmem!”).
