International Year of the Elderly

Of the United Nations was the year 1999 to be the International Year of older people (also IYOP of English. International Year of Older Persons ) explained.

It is an element of the United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty. This happened on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of their International Plan of Action on Age Issues in 1992, in order to make the UN principles for older people ( independence , participation , care , self-fulfillment , dignity ) better known and to promote social understanding and efforts for the situation of older people .
