Investors in People

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Investors in People ( IIP or IiP ) is a quality management system and Investors in People UK is the name of an organization based in the UK that is committed to promoting and applying the Investors in People standards as a framework. Investors in People UK provides all types of businesses with a guide that serves as an evaluation benchmark for certification as Investor in People .

history

Investors in People UK was launched in 1993 as a joint initiative by business and government in Great Britain to strengthen the competitiveness of British companies in international comparison.

The first version of the standard focused on personnel development and in-company training and further education as a basic requirement for positive organizational development . In the first few years, the quality label was reserved exclusively for British companies.

With increasing pressure from internationally active companies, the worldwide distribution began in 1997. In addition, non-profit organizations (NPO) have also been certified, so that today around 40,000 companies or organizations in more than 20 countries work with the standard (as of 2008).

The revised version from 2004 goes far beyond pure personnel development and focuses on effective corporate management . In the meantime, the basic model has been supplemented by so-called profiles, which cover topics such as sustainability , work-life balance or social responsibility. Best practice studies serve as the basis for the (further) development of the standard .

organization

Investors in People UK's partner organizations are usually not-for-profit organizations. You are responsible for developing a pool of consultants and assessors and offer services, materials and training in the respective national language.

Members of the pool of consultants and assessors are officially accredited by Investors in People UK or the International Quality Center.

Content

The Investors in People Standard comprises three principles with a total of 10 indicators:

  • "An investor in people develops effective strategies to improve their performance with their employees."
    • A strategy for improving the organization's performance is clearly defined and understood.
    • Learning and personnel development are planned in such a way that the goals of the organization can be achieved.
    • The personnel strategy promotes equal opportunities in personnel development.
    • Management and personnel development skills are clearly defined and understood.
  • "An investor in people takes action to improve their performance with their employees."
    • Managers lead and promote their employees effectively.
    • The contribution of employees to the goals of the organization is recognized and valued.
    • By participating in decisions, employees are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves.
    • The employees learn and develop successfully.
  • "An investor in people can show the impact his investment in people has on the organization's performance."
    • Investing in people improves the organization's performance.
    • Personnel management and development are continuously improving.

implementation

Organizations can largely implement the standard themselves or with external support in a multi-stage process:

  • Analysis (review): self-assessment and / or inventory by external parties to identify the need for action
  • Commitment: Decision for Investors in People and communication of this decision to all employees
  • Planning and Taking Action: Action plan and step-by-step implementation of improvement measures
  • Assessment: internal pre-evaluation and assessment by a neutral expert
  • Recognition: Awarded the Investor in People quality label by an independent recognition committee

The label is valid for three years, after which a new, simplified recognition process (Post Recognition Review) is possible.

meaning

The Investors in People Standard is directly comparable to the EFQM model , as the approach is also based on principles and leads to the same result, namely a continuous improvement process . In contrast to EFQM, the targeted personnel management and development is the starting point for all considerations and not just one - albeit central - factor among others. The underlying attitude is therefore different. Investors in People leads to improvements simply by focusing on the management and development of employees.

The introduction of Investors in People is less complex than the EFQM model. The assessment leads to the award of the Investor in People label, which can be used like an ISO certification in marketing - especially in personnel marketing .

Investors in People combines the advantages of an externally effective label with a holistic, systematic and unbureaucratic approach that consistently aligns personnel management and development with corporate goals.

Independent research institutes regularly certify the positive effect of Investors in People on profits.
