Irene Hilgers-Hesse
Irene Hilgers-Hesse (* 1905 in Cologne ; † 2004 ) was a German ethnologist .
Life
From 1924 she studied art history in Cologne, from 1929 ethnology, Austronesian languages and archeology at the University of Hamburg . After her doctorate in 1932 The representation of the human figure in round sculptures in Neumecklenburg (then Bismarck Archipelago, New Ireland) she worked in the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum after 1945 , from 1953 also (unpaid) at the University of Cologne , from the winter semester 1956/1957 Malay , then also Bahasa Indonesia and Austronesian philology. The habilitation took place in 1963 with contributions to the development history of Bahasa Indonesia with special consideration of some syntactic questions .
