Kurt Tauchmann (ethnologist)
Kurt Tauchmann (born June 24, 1939 ; † June 13, 2020 in Cologne ) was a German ethnologist .
Life
Tauchmann studied ethnology, Malayology , Slavic studies and geography in Cologne (with Helmut Petri ). In 1969 he received his doctorate with his dissertation The Religion of the Minahasa Tribes / Northeast Celebes / Sulawesi at the University of Cologne. He then worked as an assistant in the Cologne department and as a consultant to UNESCO in Paris. In 1973 he completed his habilitation. Kurt Tauchmann was a professor at the Institute for Ethnology at the University of Cologne from 1980 to 2004. From 1981 to 1982 he organized an exhibition on the Igorot (Philippines). Tauchmann was a professor for cultural ethnology in Cologne.
