The different versions

Ares de ligne

The most common version of the Ares de ligne is used on long-distance or regional routes connecting, for example, several cities in the same region. It is available in lengths of 10.6 m, 12 m, 12.8 m and 15 m, and has a capacity of 41 to 71 seats with around 20 standing places, should the vehicle be used in an urban area. It can be optionally equipped with adjustable seats, curtains, air conditioning and under the shelves with ventilation slots and lighting for each seat. It can also be equipped with stop buttons, ticket validators and wind flags. This line version was the successor to the Line Tracer and was replaced by the Irisbus Arway and the Crossway.

Ares d'excursion

This version is far less common than the long-distance transport model and is mainly used for short trips or to reinforce long-distance transport routes. It is not used for tourism as it is less comfortable than a Renault Iliade , for example . Like the line version, the Ares d'excursion was optionally delivered with reclining seats, curtains, ventilation openings and lighting. It is also equipped with an extra seat, microphone, television, refrigerator and air conditioning, and toilets were optionally available. The predecessor was the Tour Tracer and the successor to the Irisbus Evadys .

Ares scolaire

The simplified version was introduced as a school version under the name scolaire . On this model, the seats were not adjustable and there was no curtain. The doors were mostly double-leafed, which were identical to the tracer . In addition, door warnings (activation of the hazard warning lights when the doors are open) and "school bus" signs have been added. It was only available in the 12 m version with automatic transmission. It was the successor to the Liberto Tracer and was replaced by the Irisbus New Récréo . A similar model was the Récréo (C 955) .

Engines

Over the years, the Ares has had several diesel engines modified according to various European environmental standards.

  • The Renault MIDR 06.20.45 (Euro 2 to Euro 3) six-cylinder in-line engine with 9.8 liters and turbocharger, developed 222 and 250 kW (302 and 340 hp).
  • The Renault dCi 11 (Euro 2 to Euro 3) six-cylinder in-line engine with 11.1 liters and turbocharger developed 229 and 266 kW (312 and 361 hp).
  • After Iveco took over the buses from Renault from 2002 to 2006: The six-cylinder in-line 7.8-liter turbo engine Iveco Cursor (Euro 3) developed 228 kW (310 hp); from the Récréo C 955.

You could order the Ares with a manual as well as a semi- and automatic transmission.
