The Irish Coast Guard ( English Irish Coast Guard , Irish Garda Costa na hÉireann , abbr. IRCG) is the national Coast Guard Ireland . She works as a rescue organization within the division of the state Irish Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

The IRCG is responsible for the development and monitoring of safety standards at sea and sea rescue . It also monitors maritime environmental protection . Other organizations mandated by the Irish Parliament are responsible for maritime military security, the fight against drugs, the fight against smuggling , the prevention of illegal migration and the fisheries control.

The IRCG mainly works with around 1000 volunteers who are organized in different teams and assigned to over 20 stations along the coast. In terms of structure and task, the IRCG is more comparable to the German DGzRS than to the state-police coast guard.
