from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Irish Queer Archive ( Irish Cartlann Aerach na hÉireann ) in Dublin , Ireland is dedicated to the preservation of historical documents and works of art of the Irish LGBT community.

The Irish Queer Archive was founded in 1979 by the Irish LGBT Association. The previous institution had modest premises and relied on a small number of documents on the homosexual emancipation movement.

The archive, which has been greatly expanded since 1971, contains newspaper clippings on the LGBT movement in Ireland. By 1974 the studio had an almost complete archive of Irish LGBT news. In addition, the Queer Archive also has a collection of many LGBT audiovisual materials, slides, brochures, posters, badges and various magazines.

The Irish Queer Archive has played an important role in research on LGBT people in Ireland since its inception. It offers researchers a rich collection of historical documents.

On June 16, 2008, the museum and its collections were officially turned over to the National Library of Ireland, but the LGBT community continues to have access to its information and records.
