Irmtraut Schmid

Irmtraut Schmid (* 1930) is a German historian and archivist.

Career

Schmid received his doctorate in 1979 from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Humboldt University . As a historian and archivist at the Goethe and Schiller Archive in Weimar, she researched the life and work of the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe . She was responsible for parts of the complete edition of the letters to Goethe. Their research yielded new insights into Goethe's official activities as minister and secret council.

Since 1989 she has been active in local politics as a member of the SPD . In 1990 she was elected to the Weimar city council and was initially deputy head of the city council. From 1994 to 1999 she chaired the Weimar City Council. She is honorary chairwoman of the Thuringia regional association of AG 60 Plus of the SPD.
