Isa (dance)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Isa is a Canarian folk dance that is derived from the same tribe as the Spanish Jota .

It is a very happy dance that is celebrated on many occasions, from pilgrimages to markets. The dancing takes place in groups, more precisely in chains that cross each other. The Isa varies from island to island, there is "an Isa for each island" (in Spanish "una ISA para cada ISLA"). The Isa is accompanied by stringed instruments, for example guitars and timplers .

Compared to the iota, the Isa is more uniform, there are no differences in rhythm, and the vocal part is not as demanding to emphasize the dance.
