Isaac ben Joseph ibn Polegar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isaak ben Josef ibn Polegar was a Jewish scholar living and working in Spain in the early 15th century .

In his writing ezer ha-dat (“Help of Religion”) he tried to emphasize the absolute bindingness, irrevocability and superiority of the Torah to Christianity (especially to the writings of Alfonso de Valladolid ) . He insisted on the apparently not yet achieved redemption and rejected the claim that the unfortunate fortunes of Judaism were evidence of God's rejection of Israel. In the special situation of Spanish Judaism, it seemed appropriate to fundamentally underpin the right to exist of the Jewish religion in this way.
