Isenbergplatz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Isenberg Place is a central place in Essen Südviertel which is perceived as the focus of the Essen art scene and has established itself as a gastronomic district center. In addition to long-established cafes and bars, a large playground and second-hand shops, designer shops have settled here. The pubs, restaurants and cafés in the district differ significantly from the system catering that can be found in the nearby city center of Essen.

The Aalto-Theater , the Philharmonie and the Essen City Garden are located near the square . In the middle of the square is a memorial created in 2007 for the Essen street artist Günni Semmler .

history

In terms of urban planning, the square was created at the beginning of the 1970s, when the area between the intersection of the through streets Isenbergstrasse and Rellinghauser Strasse and the confluent streets Beethovenstrasse and Emilienstrasse was withdrawn from traffic, a playground was built on and mostly greened.

It was not until 2013 that Isenbergplatz, which until then was only called by residents with this name, was officially included in the street directory of the city of Essen.
