Iso Velikanović

Iso Velikanović (born March 29, 1869 in Šid ; † around 1940) was a Yugoslav writer.

Life

He studied medicine in Vienna and failed. Then went to Sremska Mitrovica. There he worked as a journalist and published the magazine Knut. After the beginning of the First World War he fled to Zagreb .

In his works Velikanović spoke about life in small towns (malovaroški život).

Velikanović was a well-known translator. He has translated works by Adam Mickiewicz (sonnets, romances and ballads, Grażyna , Konrad Wallenrod ) and other authors.

Honors

In 2005 the Croatian Ministry of Culture endowed the nagrada Iso Velikanović prize named after him for outstanding translations.
