Ismail Kanay

Ismail Kanay (born May 13, 1965 in Izmir , Turkey ; real name Ismail Kalaycı ) is a German-Turkish internist , author , philosopher and poet .

Life

Kanay is one of four children of a first generation guest worker family; the family came to Berlin in 1973. Kanay's parents both worked as factory workers. His father returned to Turkey, his mother stayed in Berlin with her children. Kanay studied medicine, philosophy, history and comparative religious studies at the Free University of Berlin , graduated summa cum laude and received a doctorate in medicine and philosophy . After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant doctor in Berlin hospitals and became a specialist in internal medicine . A few years later he set up as an internist in his own practice.
