Isochronous
Isochrones (from Greek : ἴσο iso = equal + χρόνος chronos = time ) are lines of the same time or the same occurrence of an event.
Application examples
One calls isochrones
- In geophysics, the connecting lines of all points at which an event (e.g. earthquake wave, tidal wave) can be measured simultaneously, see accessibility map .
- In traffic geography, the connecting lines of all places that can be reached from a starting point in the same time.
- In radiometric dating methods, the straight lines in an isochronous diagram , the slope of which is a measure of the age of a rock sample.
- for planning the emergency services and fire brigades' aid deadlines .
Differentiation from similar terms
- The adjective isochronously in describing technique periodic processes the same duration , that is a constant frequency ; (see also: synchronous )
- In clocks , the uniformity of vibrations is called isochronism , i.e. their constant frequency that is independent of external interference.
