Isogons (geodesy)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An isogon is an imaginary connecting line between locations with the same declination , i.e. the same deviation from magnetic north to geographical north . With the help of isogons in maps , the magnetic north direction of a compass can be corrected and the actual geographic north direction can be determined.

When the declination is zero, the isogon is also known as an agone .

The imaginary connecting line between places with the same annual change in magnetic declination is sometimes referred to as an isopore .
