Isophone loudspeaker, 1950s

Isophon was a German manufacturer of electrical components and speakers . In 1955, Isophon was considered the largest and most technically innovative loudspeaker manufacturer in Europe.

history

Isophon E. Fritz & Co. GmbH was founded in 1929 at Frankfurter Allee 56 in Berlin by Hermann Rummel, Ewald Fritz and Willi Schongs as a company for the manufacture of variable capacitors . Isophon thus positioned itself as an important component supplier to the radio equipment industry, which was expanding at the time . After the original production facilities were destroyed in World War II, Isophon continued to produce at Eresburgstrasse 22–23 in Berlin-Tempelhof from 1945 onwards. The wide range of products included loudspeakers for home use as well as for commercial purposes, for example for sound reinforcement in train stations, football stadiums, cinemas, department stores and trams. By 1979, Isophon had produced more than 70 million loudspeaker chassis. In the 1980s, Isophon was sold by the owners to the Bosch / Blaupunkt group. The rights to the name Isophon remained with the Dräger family. From 1997 to 2012 a loudspeaker line was manufactured by Acoustic Consulting GbR under the brand name Isophon, until the owner Roland Gauder decided to sell the loudspeakers under the name Gauder Akustik in the future.
