Isopieze

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isopiezen (from ancient Greek ἴσος ísos ' equal 'as well as Greek piézo ' I press, press' from πιέζειν piezein 'press, press'') are lines of equal pressure , especially in hydrogeology .

On hydrogeological maps isopiezen (hydroisopiezen) mark the places where the same water pressure level prevails as the underground (artesian) water. The distance between the isopies gives an indication of the strength of the horizontal pressure gradient in an area.

The information on the water pressure level in hydrogeological maps generally relate to sea level . The values of the measuring stations must be corrected for sea level with the help of the reduction to sea level.
