Ispell

International Ispell is the standard software for spell checking under Unix . The original version was written in 1971 by RE Gorin for the PDP-10 platform. Ispell is distributed on various Unix derivatives and is used by many programs: For example, there is a link to the Emacs text editor . Dictionaries for Ispell are available in many languages , in addition to almost all European ones , including Latin , Vietnamese and Afrikaans .

Ispell is free software , but the copyleft license used is not compatible with the GNU General Public License (GPL). For some time now , the GNU project has been trying to develop a successor to Ispell under the GPL with GNU Aspell .
