Israel Kleiner (mathematician)

Israel Kleiner is a Canadian mathematician and mathematician historian.

Kleiner received his doctorate in ring theory ( Lie modules and rings of quotients ) from McGill University in 1967 with Joachim Lambek . Until his retirement he was a professor at York University , where he had been since 1965 and coordinated the training program for math teachers. He was particularly concerned with the history of algebra and the connection between the history of mathematics and mathematics education .

He received twice the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award and once the George Pólya Award and in 1995 the Lester Randolph Ford Award . He was Vice President of the Canadian Society for the Philosophy and History of Mathematics in the mid-2000s.
