The Israelite cemetery of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is located in the 11th district of St. Ruprecht . It borders with two walls on the Christian cemetery St. Ruprecht.

The funeral association Chewra Kadischa , founded in 1888, purchased a piece of land in front of the Christian cemetery St. Ruprecht , where Jews were already buried. During the First World War , Jewish soldiers who died in hospitals were also buried here. During the Second World War , the cemetery was damaged by bombs in the air war, which the City of Klagenfurt resolved to repair in 1964. During a further general renovation in 2012, the wrought iron gate was recreated by the blacksmith Markus Pirker. The general renovation was ceremoniously concluded on May 8, 2012 with Marko M. Feingold , President of the Salzburg Cultural Community, and Rajmund Pajer , survivor in Mauthausen and Klagenfurt-Lendorf subcamp .

Since there is no longer a Jewish community in Klagenfurt, burials are carried out through the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Graz .

Memorial plaque and urn by Fred Reinisch

Gravestone Bert Friedländer

Mayor Maria-Luise Mathiaschitz initiated the installation of a marble plaque at the Israelite cemetery to commemorate Klagenfurters. The memorial plaque was ceremoniously unveiled on July 24, 2018. He was cremated - died in Florida in 2018. According to Jewish belief, this is not allowed. The compromise: The urn is in the Christian cemetery, more precisely in a wall niche. A memorial plaque was placed on the Jewish side of the wall,

Fred Reinisch, born on September 29, 1921 in St. Ruprecht, was the last Klagenfurt Jew who was able to escape the Holocaust.

He died on July 26, 2017 shortly before his 97th birthday in Boca Raton, Florida.

Although a lot of injustice, discrimination and persecution was done to him as a child and young man, Reinisch knew "neither resentment nor feelings of revenge" ("Letter to the Born", 2013).
