Issam Fares

Issam M. Fares (* 1937 in Bayno , Akkar ) is a Lebanese politician and entrepreneur .

Life

Fares comes from a Christian Orthodox family. He attended Tripoli College . As an entrepreneur, he was active in the Middle East, particularly in the Persian Gulf, for several decades. Fares became a member of the National Assembly of Lebanon. He was Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon in the government of Rafiq al-Hariri from 2000 to 2005 . He established the internationally recognized Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut and the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies at Tufts University .
