Akkar District

The Akkar District ( Arabic قضاء عكار, DMG Qaḍāʾ ʿAkkār ) is the only district in the governorate of the same name that is characterized by a relatively large coastal plain in the west and high mountains in the east. Halba is the administrative seat of the district, but the largest city is Bebnin . The district has about 200,000 inhabitants, its area amounts to 788 km².

There are some important archaeological sites in the district of Akkar. One of the most famous of these is the birthplace of Severus Alexander near the town of Miniara . The village of Mish Mish is also within the district of Akkar.
