The Istituto Geografico Centrale ( IGC ) is an Italian publisher based in Turin . He mainly publishes hiking maps and guides .
history
The publishing house was founded in 1952 and has been publishing topographic maps and alpinism literature ever since. The maps are - in addition to the standard maps of the Istituto Geografico Militare (IGM, Italian Military Geographic Institute) - the only available small-scale map series for the Italian peripheral Alpine region; in mountain climbing circles they are considered to be less precise than other map manufacturers for the Alpine region.
Publications
The IGC maps and guides cover the Italian western Alps (regions of Piedmont, Aosta Valley and Liguria) and are created in cooperation with the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).
The map series is available on a scale of 1: 25,000 and 1: 50,000. So far, 12 sheet cuts have been published on a scale of 1: 25,000 (main ridge on the Italian-French border largely complete), in 1: 50,000 23 sheets (area-wide, Comer-Lugano Lake, No. 13 in preparation, Cuneo plain, No. 24 1 : 75: 000). They also contain hiking trails, cross-country ski trails and bike routes. The 25,000 series is marked with the UTM kilometer grid (still ED-50 throughout , only the latest WGS84 editions ).
The guides are in Italian and describe some mountain groups and some nature reserves.
