Itaewon-dong ( Korean 이태원동 ) forms two of the 19 districts (dong) of Yongsan-gu , Seoul . It is one of the eastern parts of the district (gu), which consists of the parts Itaewon 1 (il) -dong in the south and Itaewon 2 (i) -dong in the north.

Itaewon is regarded as the nightlife and trendy district of Seoul as well as an essential center of the LGBT community in South Korea . Gyeongnidan-gil Street is located in Itaewon and is famous for its culinary offerings in international restaurants. Itaewon is the residence of many foreigners in Seoul and is located near the Yongsan Garrison , which was the main base of the US military in South Korea until 2018. There are numerous embassies in the adjacent Hannam-dong. Itaewon is also known as Western Town (analogous to Chinatown ) or as a district for foreigners .
