Justerini & Brooks ( J&B for short ) is a company specializing in wine and spirits trading , which primarily supplies hotels and restaurants, but also private customers. It became known worldwide for its blended Scotch whiskey of the same name . Today the company is part of the global beverage group Diageo .

history

The company goes back to the Italian immigrant Giacomo Justerini (originally probably Giustarini), who opened an import trade for wine and southern distillates in London. The company developed into a leading supplier of wine and spirits to aristocratic houses; King George III was one of the customers . In 1831 the company was bought by Alfred Brooks and the company was renamed to its current name. In the 1950s the company merged with others to form the United Wine Traders , which in 1962 became the International Distillers & Vintners (IDV). IDV was bought by Grand Metropolitan in 1972 , which eventually merged with St. James's Gate Brewery to become Diageo in 1997 .
