Jägerkaserne (Arnsberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jägerkaserne was a barracks in Arnsberg , North Rhine-Westphalia . It was built from 1935 and was named "Jägerkaserne" after the inauguration. The barracks were located in the Alt Arnsberg district on the southern edge of the town.

history

The barracks were built for infantry troops of the Wehrmacht . The sculptor Hubert Nietsch created a two-meter-tall kneeling archer for the barracks in 1937. After the Second World War , after the US armed forces had used the building immediately after the war, the Belgian armed forces in Germany moved into the barracks in 1946 and named them "Quartier Reigersvliet". On September 9, 1974, after a tornado, a motor vehicle hangar at the Jägerkaserne collapsed . One person was killed and another injured. After the withdrawal of the Belgian armed forces in 1994, the city of Arnsberg created an urban development framework plan in 1995, which resulted in a land use plan for residential developments in 2001.

Shortly before the barracks buildings were demolished, on the night of May 8, 2000, the approximately 50 centimeter high bell that was part of the illuminated external clock on the west side of the staff building was stolen. The bell was previously assigned to the Arnsberger Heimatbund. Four months after the theft, it was found in the meadows on the Ruhr (river) and placed on November 16, 2008 in the New Eichholzfriedhof.

In 2011, around 80% of the former 18 hectare barracks site was built on with residential buildings, mainly single-family houses. In the spring of 2013, only 6 of the around 220 building sites were left for sale.
