Jörg Borgias Quenzer

Jörg Borgias Quenzer (born November 10, 1961 ) is a German Japanologist .

Life

From 1984 he studied Japanese Studies, German Philology and Philosophy at the University of Cologne . From 1992 to 2005 he was a research assistant at the Japanese Studies Department at the University of Cologne, followed by several research stays in Japan (including Keiô daigaku and Ôsaka shiritsu daigaku). After completing his PhD in Japanese Studies in Cologne in 1998, he was a research assistant in the Department of Language and Culture of China at the Asia-Africa Institute at the University of Hamburg (project manuscript cultures ). After completing his habilitation in 2006 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Cologne; venia legendi: He has been teaching Japanese studies since 2006 as a professor of Japanese studies (area: literature and cultural history) at the Department of Language and Culture of Japan at the Asia-Africa Institute at the University of Hamburg. In 2012 he did a research stay at the Kokusai Nihon Bunka Kenkyū Center (Nichibunken, Kyôto).

His main research interests are the literary history of Japan, literature of the classical period (kodai) and the Middle Ages (chûsei), Buddhism and literature, intellectual and cultural history (history of mentalities, etc.) and manuscript culture.
