Jörg Schiedek

Jörg Schiedek (born January 17, 1970 ) is a German disabled athlete .

Life

Jörg Schiek comes from Jena . Although he is severely disabled (forearm amputation on the left), he did not want to forego participation in sport. As a sport, he chose athletics, in which he was active in several disciplines. In addition to the long jump and running competitions (100 relay and 400 m relay), his favorite discipline was the javelin throw.

Because of his good performance, especially in the javelin, he was appointed to the German national team for handicapped people, with which he took part in three Paralympic Summer Games ( 1992 , 1996 and 2000 ) in the performance group E 46. At the Paralympic Summer Games in 1996, he was Olympic champion in the javelin throw with 53.58 m and thus winner of a gold medal. He also took first place at the 1998 World Cup. At the Paralympic Games 2000 he was there again. He also won a bronze medal in the javelin throw.

For winning the gold medal in 1996 he was awarded the silver laurel leaf by the Federal President .
